Former Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar has criticised the anthem ‘Groove Mera’ released for the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and said this song will be the worst if we ever compile 10 worst songs in PSL’s history.

He made these remarks on his YouTube Channel. Akhtar said, “If the 10 worst songs of the PSL are compiled, this song will be number one,” said the former pacer. “Do you have any shame?”

He further added, “My kids are scared of this song. When they don’t sleep, I tell them I’ll play it for them. That immediately scares them.”

“Neither did I get the lyrics nor the song. What does groove mean? What is groove? Even the singers who were singing I am sure did not know the meaning of the word groove,” he further stated.

He also took to Twitter and expressed his disappointment on the anthem and said, “Really disappointed by the anthem this year. Is this how you’re taking PSL brand up? Going down every year. Kon banata hai yeh.”

On February 6, ‘Groove Mera’ was released om PSL’s official You Tube Channel and so far it has crossed 5.2 million views. The song has been the talk of the town since its release.

PCB while releasing the song said in statement, “Continuing the rich tradition of entertaining HBL PSL fans with a new anthem for each season, “Groove Mera” refers to the swing and feel of the movements of cricketers. It refers to moments of finesse that one finds in the heart of every cricket match.”

“This year’s anthem also reflects the realities of the Covid-19 pandemic. As majority of the fans will be watching Pakistan’s biggest sporting event remotely, this anthem cheers both players on the field and their fans at home as they celebrate their groove!” the statement added.
