Former Pakistan leg spinner Shahid Afridi has expressed his disappointment over Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) decision to release its players during the ongoing series against Pakistan to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The 44-year old took to Twitter and said, “Surprising to see @OfficialCSA allowing players to travel for IPL in the middle of a series. It is sad to see T20 leagues influencing international cricket.”

Afridi has also asked the cricketing authorities to take a close look at this trend where T20 leagues are damaging international cricket.

As many as five players were released from their international duty by CSA after the second game in Johannesburg. These include Quinton de Kock, Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and David Miller.

Rabada and Nortje will feature for last year’s finalist Dehli Capitals while de Kock is set to play for defending champions Mumbai Indians. Miller will link up with the Rajasthan Royals squad and Ngidi will represent Chennai Super Kings.

All these players missed the third and final ODI and will also not feature in the four match T20 series against Pakistan which is due to start from April 10 in Johannesburg.
