Senate elections: ECP summons Gilani on 22nd

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Senator Yousaf Raza Gilani and his son Ali Haider on March 22 on the ruling Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) petition seeking his disqualification.

The ECP on Saturday directed Syed Yousaf Raza to appear in person or through his lawyer.

The petition was filed by PTI’s Farrukh Habib and Kanwal Shauzab, seeking disqualification of Senator Syed Yousaf Raza over the leaked video of Ali Haider.

The petitioners stated that the video clip showed that Ali Haider Gilani, an MPA from Multan, was guiding MNAs how to waste their votes to benefit his father Yousaf Raza Gilani in the Senate elections.

After the video went viral, Ali Haider admitted before the media that he tried to influence the Senate election. The petitioners pleaded that the ECP take action against them under Section 174 of the Election Act 2017.
