Human rights activist and senior journalist IA Rehman has passed away at the age of 90 due to coronavirus.

Ibn Abdur Rehman, who was born in 1930 in Haryana, now a part of India, led the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) for decades.

The family of the veteran rights activist confirmed his death. They said that Rehman was a sugar and blood pressure patient, but they did not reveal the cause of his death.

However, in a tweet, Senator Sherry Rehman said that the HRCP director lost his life to the deadly coronavirus. She wrote that IA Rehman was “an icon of integrity” who struggled for “every single fundamental right, every single democratic value in the worse of times”.

“Pakistan will not be same without him,” she wrote.
