The Punjab Educational department has restricted co-curricular activities in the schools of seven districts of Punjab.
According to an official notification issued by the Government of Punjab, Education Department, there are specific districts where COVID-19 cases are exceptionally high. Consequently, several educational institutions have been instructed to restrict co-curricular activities such as sports galas and other social functions.
The seven districts that have been highlighted, as per the notification, are Lahore, Gujrat, Rahi Yar Khan, Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot.
On Monday, a session of the National Command and Operation Centre was held where it was revealed that that organisation would revisit its former decision regarding the opening of educational institutions, as COVID-19 cases continue to rise at an alarming rate.
Following the meeting, the decision to open cinemas, indoor weddings, and dine-in restaurants was also suspended. It was observed that SOP’s related to the virus were not being followed by the masses.
On Monday alone, Pakistan recorded 1,592 new COVID-19 infections and 22 deaths. So far, a total of 499,517 COVID-19 cases have been reported. 9,246,827 tests have so far been conducted in Pakistan, and 10,598 total deaths have been registered.
