The Punjab government has extended the ongoing smart lockdown in 11 districts of the province till September 15 as coronavirus pandemic has not yet been controlled effectively.
According to a statement issued by the Punjab government, the districts in which smart lockdown has been extended include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Khanewal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala and Rahim Yar Khan.
Markets in these districts will be allowed to open until 8pm, while businesses will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
The statement said that there would be a complete ban on indoor wedding ceremonies and only 300 guests would be allowed to attend the outdoor wedding. In addition, outdoor dining will be available at restaurants until 10pm.
Public and private offices will be allowed to work with 50 percent staff and only vaccinated people will be allowed to travel.
Punjab has reported 1,718 Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the highest since May 7 when 1,1817 cases were reported. The province’s infection tally now stands at 388,296.
