The fate of Lahore Qalandars hangs in balance as the sixth edition of Pakistan Super League has entered an interesting stage.

As Islamabad United, Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi are through to the next phase, Lahore now awaits the outcome of holders Karachi Kings match against Quetta Gladiators on Saturday (today) to find out whether they are in or out of the competition.

After the resumption of PSL6 in Abu Dhabi, the Lahore Qalandars claimed two consecutive victories. But then the poorly performing Qalandars suffered four back-to-back defeats. And thus started the game of speculations.

If the Quetta beat Karachi, Lahore will enter the play-off stage as the fourth-placed team on the table.

The Lahore Qalandars ended the league stage with 10 points from 10 games and have a net run rate (NRR) of -0.589.

The teams of Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans have qualified for the playoffs based on a good net run rate, yet mathematically, confirmation is awaited.

In today’s second match, Multan Sultans will face the top of the points table Islamabad United against Multan Sultans.

Defending champions Karachi have 8 points in nine games and have an NRR of -0.212. If they manage to beat Quetta, they’ll also jump to 10 points on the table.

With the Kings already sporting a better NRR than the Qalandars, a win against Gladiators will get them to the play-offs and the Qalandars will be eliminated.

Quetta are already out of the playoff race after seven defeats in nine matches.
