The non-government sector has made an additional borrowing of Rs.122.74 billion during the last week of August. This brings the cumulative net borrowing for the ongoing fiscal year FY2022 to Rs.190.5 billion. The net borrowing recorded for the previous week was at Rs.67.76 billion.

As per the data from the State Bank of Pakistan, the private sector has borrowed Rs.324.54 billion last year in comparison to the amount of borrowing recorded during the same period last year which was Rs.134.04 billion.

The non-government sector comprises three broad categories namely, the Private Sector, the Public Sector Enterprises, and NBFI. The main source of financing for the private sector is commercial banks. Conventional banks, Islamic banks, and Islamic branches of conventional banks are all part of commercial banks.

The private sector borrowed a net sum of Rs.175.81 billion during the current fiscal year whereas the PSE’s and NBFI have borrowed Rs.13.18 billion and Rs.1.51 billion respectively.

As we split the inflows and outflows within the private sector, conventional banks lent a cumulative sum of Rs.94.15 billion, Islamic Banks lent Rs.26.89 billion and lastly the Islamic branches of Conventional Banks lent Rs.54.76 billion.
