Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry on Friday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has written a letter to Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif for the appointment of members to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The letter stated that two members of the ECP had retired on July 26th leaving two vacancies, one in Punjab and KPK each.

The Articles 213 of the Constitution requires the Prime Minister to consult with the opposition before electing an EC member. In accordance with clause the Prime Minister has written a letter to the leader of the Opposition, Chaudhry said, so these vacancies may be filled.

Imran Khan himself has nominated three names each for the two vacancies in ECP in KPK and Punjab.

The nominees for Punjab include Ahsan mehboob a retired BS-22 police force officer, Syed Pervaiz Abbas a retired officer from the Administrative Service and Raja Aamir Khan, an advocate for Supreme Court.
