Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday said that the PML-Q members have agreed that the current assemblies should complete their term.
During an informal conversation with journalists in Lahore, Elahi said that the Constitution and law are very clear on the matter of the no-confidence motion, therefore, the speaker of the National Assembly should follow them.
The allies of the PTI-government — PML-Q, MQM-P and the BAP— are working together, he added.
“If we join hands with the opposition, we will resign from the ministries,” said Pervaiz.
He said that he had a meeting with a member of the Jahangir Tareen group Awn Chaudry as well, adding that he will “soon make an announcement who to support.”
He said a meeting with PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif will take place soon, however, the prime minister should keep making efforts.
Earlier, PML-Q had held a consultative meeting regarding the no-confidence motion during which the party discussed the relations with the current government and the opposition. The meeting also shed light on the consultations it had held with the government allies.
Insiders said that the PML-Q decided to continue the consultations tomorrow as well.
PPP, PML-N AGREE ON PERVAIZ: Earlier PML-N and PPP agreed to nominate Elahi as Punjab chief minister in exchange for their party’s support for the no-trust motion to oust PM Imran.
Insiders said that the announcement regarding this decision will be made within the next 24 hours.
They said that PML-Q, which is a key ally of the PM Imran Khan-led government, was informed about the development by a senior leader of PPP.
