Minister for Information and Broadcasting, addressing a press briefing in Islamabad today, said that the demands of the government employees protesting for a raise in salaries will be promptly addressed by the government.
He said that the issue has been discussed in the Cabinet with Prime Minister Imran Khan, who he has directed everyone that these problems are solved as soon as possible. The Prime Minister is very serious about this, Shibli Faraz said.
He stressed that the government will dedicate a committee to do whatever is necessary to meet the demands of the protesting government employees. The committee members will also hold a press conference soon, he said. The committee members include Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan, Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak, Minister of Interior Sheikh Rasheed, and the Minister of Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.
“But right now, the protestors will be satisfied,” Shibli Faraz said. “They will end their portest soon.”
Asked about the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)’s support for the protestors, the minister lambasted the opposition alliance and said they are exploiting the opportunity for personal gains.
“They have no moral standing,” he said. “Wherever the see a few flags, they go and start protesting.”
He went to say that the problems the incumbent government is facing are due to the faulty planning and incompetence of past governments. “We cannot undo the harm they have caused in 30 years in 30 days,” he said. “Yet our government has still achieved a lot despite the setbacks.”
