Petroleum products are also likely to become more expensive in Pakistan as a result of the impact on the global oil prices due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Insiders in the Petroleum Division said on Monday that keeping in view trend in the global market, the price of diesel and petrol might go up from Rs4.50 per liter to Rs5.50 per liter. This increase does not include petroleum levy.
If petroleum levy of Rs4 is added, the petrol price could increase by Rs9.50 per liter and diesel by Rs8.50 per liter, they added.
At present, the levy on petrol is Rs17.92 per liter and on diesel Rs13.30 per liter while GST on petrol and diesel is zero.
The final decision on prices of petroleum products will be taken by the Ministry of Finance in consultation with the prime minister.
