The 11-party opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) will hold a protest in Malakand’s Batkhela today.
The protest will be held at Zafar Park at 2pm. Alliance chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman, Maryam Nawaz, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Aftab Sherpao, Mehmood Achakzai, Haider Hoti and other central and provincial leaders of parties will address the gathering.
The protest is being hosted by Pakistan Peoples Party and the JUI organization Ansar-ul-Islam is providing security cover. Local leaders of the PPP, PML-N, JUI, Awami National Party and Qaumi Watan Party will lead rallies to the Zafar Park.
Meanwhile, the PDM has announced that it will stage protest outside the offices of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Islamabad on January 19.
PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that ECP has been hearing the foreign funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) since 2014 but it has yet to give its verdict.
She said the State Bank had detected at least 23 foreign accounts of PTI leaders and submitted details to the ECP.
One of the founding members of the PTI, Akbar S Babar, had filed a petition in November 2014, alleging financial irregularities in the foreign funding of the party.
