The latest data from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) showed a jump in Pakistan’s COVID-19 positivity rate to 9.06% on Thursday morning. 

This is the first time in three months that the country has recorded a positivity rate over 9%. The last time this was the case was on May 10 when positivity rate of 9.12% was recorded across the country. 

Over the past 24 hours, the NCOC reported 5,661 new coronavirus cases. The new data shows that the national death tally has been pushed to 23,635 after 60 more people died. The number of active cases stands at 77,409 and recovered cases at 952,616. 

Lockdowns are being imposed across the country. The Punjab government has imposed a partial lockdown covering Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Faisalabad. Sindh is currently under a lockdown until 8th August and the AJK government has imposed a partial lockdown.

The stats show that the total cases in Pakistan amount to 1,053,660, with 392,443 cases in Sindh, 360,494 in Punjab, and 146,485 cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 89,117 cases were recorded in Islamabad, 30,880 in Balochistan, 25,778 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and 8,473 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
