The opposition has criticised the federal budget 2021-22 as “unfriendly” as “the country is facing unprecedented inflation and unprecedented unemployment.”
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal called a 10 percent raise in the salaries of government employees a “sick joke”.
“A 10% increase in the salaries after record inflation is the sick joke made by the government with them,” tweeted Ahsan Iqbal as Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin presented the federal government budget in the National Assembly. He added that the move was like “rubbing salt on their wounds”.
“We reject this. At least a 20% increase should be given,” said the former interior minister.
Meanwhile, People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari tweeted that the federal government should have followed the Sindh government and fixed minimum wage at Rs25,000 per month.
In a media talk posted on the Twitter, he said it is like rubbing salts in the wounds of the common man as there is unprecedented inflation and unprecedented unemployment in the country.
Earlier, Bilawal had met PML-N President and opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the strategy to be adopted in post budget scenario.
Shehbaz Sharif said the opposition would join hands and give a tough time to the government during the budget session and will expose their “fudged” figures.
“When poor people are dying of hunger, unemployment and inflation are skyrocketing, how can they claim that the country is witnessing economic growth?” the Opposition leader asked.
Jamiat Uleman Islam Fazal (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the IMF has been influencing our lives.
He called the IMF another East India Company.
