On Saturday night, a passenger train derailed between Mando Dero and Sanghi railway stations, sending 9 rail cars off the track. Till now, one death has been reported while 40 people got injured in the unfortunate incident.
The Karachi Express was en route to Lahore from Karachi. The initial rescue effort was done by the passengers and local people following which Rangers, police and Pakistan Army arrived to take over.
30 injured people have been discharged from the hospital after medical attention while 10 of them are still in hospital and being looked after.
The track will be made operational in the next 10 hours, according to railway authorities.
Azam Khan Swati, the Federal Minister for Railways has said the initial report of the unfortunate incident will come in the next four to five days.
He further said that negligence won’t be tolerated in this regard and if the train driver is responsible for this mishap then he will have to face the consequences.
Railway officials said that the tracks were broken. “A 200-foot section was missing which will have to be re-laid,” the spokesperson said.
