The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected nomination papers for the Senate election on the objection filed by PTI MPA Zainab Omar. However, he said he will file an appeal against the ECP decision.
The former information minister has been accused by the Punjab government of defaulting on payments to Punjab House in Islamabad.
MPA Zainab had filed an objection against Rasheed through her lawyer Rana Mudassar to the returning officer in Lahore. The retuning officer accepted the objection and said that he has failed to provide evidence whether he had cleared the dues.
Later, talking to media, Pervaiz Rashid criticised the government and described the rejection of his nomination papers as a vindictive act.
He said the government prepared a false demand to keep him out of election process.
He said he is ready pay the “unjustified dues” the management of Punjab House refused to accept it.
“You can close the doors on me, but you can’t stop my voice,” he said, adding that he I will appeal against the decision.
Pervaiz alleged that fake cases are being made against the PML-N leaders to keep them away from politics.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has issued a list of PML-N leaders and their relatives who are allegedly “defaulters” of more than Rs60 million.
According to the list, Pervaiz owed Rs7.05 million for his stay in 2011, 2013 and 2018. His daughter, Poonam, also a Senator, owed Rs2.7 million.
