All the 84 members of National Assembly (MNA) of the Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) attended a dinner hosted by the party’s president, Shehbaz Sharif, and gave full mandate to the party leadership to “take any decision” related to the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, party spokesperson Marriyum Aurengzeb said on Sunday.
Shehbaz presided over a parliamentary part meeting in the federal capital and directed the lawmakers to stay in the city till the voting on the motion and avoid unnecessary travelling.
Shehbaz was said to have looked confident in the meeting.
Senior party leaders, including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Khurram Dastgir, Rana Tanveer Hussain and others were present at the meeting.
Speaking to the MNAs, Shehbaz apprised them about the details of his meetings with the leadership of other opposition parties and government allies.
He told the meeting that some issues with the PTI partners had been finalised and talks were held on other matters.
“The parliamentary party, which is confident of the success of the no-trust move, also demanded that the National Assembly session should be summoned immediately,” Marriyum said.
She told the media that the parliamentary party felt that the PML-N would stand with the opposition parties and play an effective role in the success of the motion. “We have required numbers of members to achieve our objective and it’s Imran Khan who should worry about his party’s 12 parliamentarians who are going to vote against him,” she said.
INSIDE STORY: The parliamentary party mainly discussed seeking cooperation from the government’s allies and particularly the demand of the PML-Q to elevate Pervaiz Elahi to the slot of Punjab chief minister, insiders revealed.
Murtaza Javed Abbasi, while responding to a question from media after the meeting regarding PML-Q demand, said that the parliamentary party decided to authorise Shehbaz Sharif to take a decision on the issue.
It also was decided that the party members would be given dinner reception daily and Rohail Asghar would host a dinner today (Monday). It was agreed that all the decisions, including acceptance of the PML-Q demand, would be consulted with other opposition parties.
Meanwhile, Shehbaz thanked the parliamentary party for reposing confidence in him and giving him mandate to take a decision regarding the no-trust move.
