Pakistani batsmen were no match for the pace and hostility of the New Zealand pace attack as they were blown away on the fourth day of the Test match in Hagley Oval. Kiwis won the match by an innings and 176 runs to clinch the series 2-0 and have increased their chances of making it to the final of the World Test Championship in June 2021.
Abbas was the first wicket to fall at the start of the day. Opener Abid Ali and Azhar Ali occupied the crease for a period. Jamieson broke the partnership by dismissing Abid Ali on 26.
Almost all Pakistani batsmen got starts but none of them could occupy the crease for an extended period, which was required. Haris Sohail’s dismal tour continued as he went back after scoring just 15. He could only manage 28 runs in the whole series. Muhammad Rizwan also couldn’t show the grit he has shown throughout the tour.
Only notable contributions came from Azhar Ali and Zafar Gohar. Both of them scored 37 runs. Kyle Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand as he bagged 6 wickets for 48 runs. In the match, he picked up 11 wickets for 117 runs and was declared as the man of the match.
Kane Williamson also came on to bowl and dismissed Shaheen who tried to heave him over the leg side but could only manage to top edge it to Ross Taylor in slips.
The New Zealand captain was named as the player of the series for his brilliant batting display.
