Pakistan reported a total of 666 new cases and 12 deaths on Sunday. The cases were reported against a total of 28,893 tests conducted in 24 hours. The Punjab government has enforced 856 “micro smart lockdowns” in all 36 districts of the province
With the new cases, the country’s tally for confirmed coronavirus cases now stands at 318,932, whereas the 12 deaths have taken Pakistan’s death toll to 6,570.
Some 396 people also recovered from the virus, taking the total tally for recovered patients to 303,458.
The Punjab government has also enforced ‘micro smart lockdowns’ in all 36 districts of the province to curtail the spread of the virus.
According to an official report, the Punjab government has enforced 856 “micro smart lockdowns” in all 36 districts of the province restricting 7,295 citizens to their residences. The lockdowns were proposed following the detection of 1,235 Covid-19 positive patients in these districts.
Most cases of the virus in the province, 50,217, were reported in Lahore where the death toll was 868 since the pandemic broke out.
Earlier in the day, the Cabinet Committee on Coronavirus at chief minister’s house discussed the inability to control the coronavirus resurgence. Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary retired Captain Muhammad Usman stressed the need to take preventive measures after a sharp rise in positive cases in Sindh. “If people will not take precautions, smart lockdown can be resumed in high-risk districts and areas,” he said.
Earlier this week, the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC) proposed restrictions on large-scale public gatherings and issued fresh guidelines for marriage halls after the country saw a rise in Covid-19 infections in recent weeks.
