Country’s power regulator National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has notified around Rs 1.114 per unit hike in in electricity tariff for ex-Wapda Distribution Companies (DISCOs). As a result of Nepra’s decision, Ex-Wapda Discos will transfer the burden of Rs 14 billion to power consumers.
Nepra allowed the hike on account of monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for power used in September and would be charged to consumers in ongoing billing month (December).
In its petition with regulator, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had suggested an increase of Rs1.3697 per unit in electricity tariff for the month of September 2020 for ex-Wapda Discos. However, the regulator, after hearing, had reserved the decision and after going through the data provided by CPPA it allowed Rs 1.1137 per unit hike in power price instead of the demanded Rs1.3697.
