Islamabad High Court declared former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a proclaimed offender after he failed to appear before the court for the hearing of his appeals against his conviction in Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases.
Justice Aamer Farooq passed a short order declaring Nawaz Sharif proclaimed offender on Wednesday.
Nawaz Sharif had filed appeal against his conviction in Al-Azizia and Avenfield cases but he has not been appearing before the court. The former Prime Minister left Pakistan in November 2019 for his medical treatment in London. Since then he has not returned.
On September 15, 2020, Islamabad High Court issued non-bailable warrant. Following this, the IHC bench started the process of declaring Nawaz Sharif an absconder and ordered authorities to publish advertisements in London-based newspapers.
The court recorded the statements of three witnesses and completed proceedings regarding the proclamation process.
