India reported on Saturday 326,098 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting to take stock of the current situation and vaccination drive in the country.

India reported 3,890 deaths in the last 24 hours, a slight fall in fatalities.

Over the past week, India has added about 1.7 million new cases and more than 20,000 deaths. Its death toll stands at 266,207, health ministry data shows.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board has deployed ‘Sewer crocs’ in the city to clear choked sewerage lines, as a growing number of civic workers have tested positive for Covid-19. The robots are sent into the sewer lines and remove silt and solid waste from the lines.

Earlier on Friday, Modi said that the pandemic is the “worst in 100 years” and is “testing the world at every step. There is an invisible enemy before us.”

The Indian premier has been facing criticism by opposition leaders over the handling of the second wave of Covid-19.

Prime Minister Modi had also cautioned about the spread of coronavirus through rural areas, as the second wave continues to wreak havoc across the country.

“The pain that citizens have suffered, that many experienced, I am feeling it equally,” PM Modi said while addressing a virtual event.
