The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) on Tuesday announced appointment of Masarrat Aalam Butt as chairperson to lead the Kashmir freedom movement.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, the APHC announced new officer-bearers after a meeting held in Srinagar, the capital of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Masarrat replaces former chairman Syed Ali Geelani who died on September 1 after a protracted illness. The participants in the meeting paid rich tributes to the late Ali Geelani and vowed to continue his mission.
Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar have been appointed the vice-chairpersons. Moulvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani will continue as the general secretary of the alliance.
