Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Advisor on Home and Accountability Shehzad Akbar has said that Maryam Nawaz has been threatening the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Addressing a press conference with Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in Lahore, Shehzad Akbar said that Rangers and police would be deployed on the occasion of Maryam Nawaz’s appearance before the NAB.

He said that the NAB summoned her to clarify position on money laundering charges and not to deliver a lecture.

It is tactics of mafias and criminals to attack the institution who call them to clarify their position, a possible reference to the attack on Supreme Court during her father Nawaz Sharif’s rule.

About the Broadsheet Commission report, Shehzad said that the report has been submitted to the prime minister. It will be presented in the cabinet meeting. A decision on whether to make the report public or not will be taken by the cabinet, he added.

Referring to the sugar mafia, the prime minister’s advisor said that as the holy month of Ramazan is approaching, they want to increase the prices of stored sugar. The mafia raised the price of sugar at its whim, he maintained.

Shehzad revealed that the FIA carried out an operation against sugar mafia who was planning to enhance prices before Ramazan.

He said criminal cases have been registered against hoarders and mills.

The government is tightening the noose on those who arbitrarily raised the price. An FIR has been registered against the sugar mafia that included the names of JDW, Jahangir Tareen, Suleiman and Hamza Shahbaz, he added.

USMAN  BUZDAR: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar said that the system of sugar supply is being regulated. No dealer will be allowed to store more than 2.5 metric tons of sugar, he added.

The chief minister said that sugar mills have been barred from supplying sugar to unregistered dealer. A dealer would have to get permission from the deputy commissioner concerned to store sugar exceeding his quota, he continued.

Sugar mills and dealers will be required to submit their records to the Cane Commissioner, Chief Minister Buzdar concluded.
