Local celebrities took to social media platforms to protest the killing of a domestic pit bull in Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. The dog, named Chuck, was shot by a neighbor on New year’s Eve, reported the dog’s owner, revealing that he was shot three times in the back using a rifle. The neighbor, identified as Ahmed Umer Saqib fired at the pet amid raging New year’s eve fireworks and then dumped the body in an empty plot nearby.
The owner posted on Facebook soon after, saying that the accused had shot the dog ‘without thinking’ and because he believed pitbulls are ‘banned in the US’.
Following this event, several celebrities spoke out in support of Chuck, calling the act ‘sad’, while several Twitter users used the hashtag #Justicefor Chuck to spread awareness. Singer Ali Gul Pir, Actress Saba Hameed and TV show host Mishi Khan were among those who condemned the killing.
The culprit was taken to the police station and a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against him.
