IGP calls kidnap of Afghan envoy’s daughter a ‘blind case’

Inspector General of Islamabad police Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman has said that they found no evidence of kidnap of the daughter of the Afghanistan ambassador in the capital.

Addressing a press conference along with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf in Islamabad on Monday, the IGP said that the authorities formed several teams to investigate the reported abduction of Silsila Alikhil, the daughter of Afghanistan ambassador to Pakistan Najibullah Alikhil, on July 16.

Silsila Alikhil had claimed that she was “abducted and assaulted” by taxi drivers in the federal capital.

IGP Qazi Jamil said police used all resources for the investigation… and supported other law enforcement agencies.

He said the abduction of the daughter of Afghan envoy was a complete “blind case” and they collected data of around 300 CCTV cameras installed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Police had collected the footage of all places she visited. “According to the police investigation, her abduction has not been proven yet,” he maintained.

QURESHI SPEAKS: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said during the press conference that “we do not want to hide anything and will present all the facts before the world.”

Qureshi said that he spoke to his Afghan counterpart and discussed the steps that the government of Pakistan has so far taken to investigate the matter.

“We have assured the Afghan government that Prime Minister Imran Khan is personally overseeing the probe into the alleged abduction of the Afghan ambassador’s daughter,” he said.

He reiterated that the Afghanistan government should reconsider its decision to pull out its ambassador and diplomats from Pakistan, adding that if they want the investigation to be transparent, it will have to cooperate with Pakistan.

“Pakistan wants to arrest and punish the culprits involved in alleged kidnapping as soon as possible,” he said. “I told the Afghan ambassador that we are aware of the security concerns he is having, therefore, we have beefed up all Afghan diplomats’ security.”

Qureshi said Prime Minister Imran Khan is personally monitoring the situation and Pakistan will take the investigation to its logical conclusion at the earliest.

Afghanistan wants to send its investigation team to check security environment, said the foreign minister.

SECURITY ADVISER: Moeed Yusuf said Pakistan was facing “hybrid warfare” as Indian verified social media accounts had been found involved in sharing a false picture of the Afghan envoy’s daughter.

He said the aim of Indian propaganda is to create rifts between Islamabad and Kabul.

He said the same social media accounts, which spread propaganda related to Kashmir and Balochistan, had been found involved in fanning fake news regarding the purported abduction saga.

Moeed said “some spoilers of peace” were trying to make Pakistan a scapegoat of their failures and they were trying to establish a false narrative that Pakistan and Afghanistan are eternal enemies.
