Babar Azam is all set to lead Pakistan in the Test match and has reiterated that he has full authority while selecting the side. The coaches and management do give their valuable input but I have the final say.
“I have to fight out with the team in the middle so I will pick the team. The head coach will give his inputs, but I will have the final say,” said Babar.
On Monday, during an online conference, Babar was probed about the playing eleven which Pakistan will be fielding in the first Test. Babar Azam said that we are looking to go with three spinners but didn’t reveal any names and said that media should wait for morning.
Babar Azam also showed happiness on domestic cricketers being rewarded for their hard work. He was of the opinion that these players will be helpful in assessing the conditions as they have played the whole season on these pitches.
On a question about his captaincy, he said that he has learnt a lot from Sarfaraz Ahmed but he has his own way of handling things and will look to develop a culture of mutual respect.
Furthermore, he said that South African team should not be taken lightly as they have experienced players but we have the home advantage and will try to exploit it.
We lost last series mainly because of our batting and the players have learnt from their mistakes and will try to not repeat them.
It is also worth mentioning that it will be Babar Azam’s first competitive match in over two months as he missed the entire tour with a thumb fracture.
