A video of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s son, Ali Haider, has been uploaded on the social media in which he is allegedly instructing a parliamentarian on how he can waste his vote.
The former prime minister is contesting the Senate elections against Abdul Hafeez Sheikh of the ruling PTI from Islamabad. Ali Haider is a member of Punjab Assembly.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill urged the ECP to take action against the Gilanis.
Interestingly, Ali Haider admitted at a press conference that he had met a lot of people during campaign for the Senate elections.
He said MNA are “our constituents and honourable for us.”
He levelled counter allegation that the prime minister had attempted to earn lawmakers’ loyalty by doling out development funds.
He said that he had met the PTI’s parliamentarians to secure vote for his father.
“It is my right to do so and it is not unlawful. I will meet them a hundred times,” Ali haider added.
He claimed that Gilanis have sought votes in every election. They don’t believe in buying or selling votes or through intimidation.
He said he was asking for votes on the basis of “love and conscience” from the PTI’s members and claimed that many of them wanted to vote for his father.
Replying to question, Ali Haider said he did not know who had recorded the video.
In a tweet, he wrote that he was approached by many MNA’s on several occasions because they were “not happy with the PTI’s candidate.”
