Pep Guardiola has hinted at managing an international side once his contract expires with Manchester City at the end of 2023.

The former Spanish player turned coach on Wednesday said to a newspaper, “The next step will be a national team if there is a possibility,”

“After seven years at this club, I think I’m going to have a break. I will need to rest after being somewhere so many years and also stop to evaluate what we’ve done and to try to learn from other coaches.”

“If, during this process of stopping, there is a chance to coach a national team then I think I’d like that. I’d like to coach at a European Championship or Copa America or World Cup. I’d like to experience that.”

Since joining the Manchester club in 2016, Guardiola has won three Premier League along with other domestic competitions but the Champions League prize has eluded him so far. In the last season, he led his side to the final of the tournament but were beaten by Chelsea 1-0.

Pep last won the European competition in 2011 with Barcelona.

As a player Guardiola also won six league titles and the 1992 European Cup with Barcelona, having scored five goals in 47 internationals for Spain.
