At least four police, including a commander, were killed and seven critically injured in blasts in eastern and southern provinces of Afghanistan on Saturday, officials say.
A police spokesman in southern Kandahar province said seven personnel sustained injuries in a blast caused by a Humvee packed with explosives.
Afghan defence ministry said “18 Taliban were killed and nine others were wounded” in an operation in Arghandab district of Kandahar province on Friday night.
An explosion targeted the police commander in the Chapa Dara district of eastern Kunar province, killing four local police personnel, including the commander, said a provincial police spokesman.
A roadside bomb blast injured three civilians in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks.
OIL TANKER EXPLODES: Meanwhile, an oil tanker exploded at the Islam Qala crossing in western Herat province on the Iranian border, injuring at least seven people and causing a massive fire that destroyed more than 500 trucks carrying natural gas and fuel, says Afghan officials.
It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the blast.
Herat Governor Wahid Qatali said Afghan authorities did not have the means to put out the fire and had requested support from Iran.
Seven people injured by the fire have been admitted to the hospital.
