Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday called on Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani at the presidential palace in Tehran.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Rahim Hayat Qureshi was also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Qureshi thanked the Iranian leadership for its support to Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. He conveyed the message of good wishes and goodwill to President Rouhani and the Iranian nation.
President Rouhani reiterated Iran’s commitment to further enhance bilateral relations with Pakistan in trade, investment, and liaison and border management.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi arrived in Iran on Tuesday for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.
In a video statement prior to his departure from the United Arab Emirates to Iran, the foreign minister had said that important regional matters would come under discussion during the visit to Tehran.
Qureshi had mentioned that Iran being a neighbour of Afghanistan was an important country for Pakistan in view of pursuing the efforts towards peace and stability in Afghanistan.
During the visit, the foreign minister will hold delegation-level talks with FM Zarif. He will call on Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. During the delegation-level talks, the two Foreign Ministers will review bilateral relations with a view to further deepening cooperation in diverse fields.
The FM will also visit the city of Mashhad.
