All education ministers will attend a meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) today to review the decision to reopen educational institutions given the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood announced.
“The rate of cases has spiked within a week,” he said on Wednesday, adding that the situation was not as bad as in November-December of last year.
The meeting today will be attended by the Federal Minister and all provincial education ministers, where they will deliberate over the next course of action.
Shafqat Mehmood had announced last month that all educational institutes shall resume regular 5-day classes from March 1. However, the recent spike in COVID-19 cases may lead to a reversal of the decision.
In the last 24 hours, 1786 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Pakistan while 43 lost their lives, according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC). As of March 10, the total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan stand at 16,699.
