Speaking to the business community at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Saturday, Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar said the government has decided not to suspend economic activities during the current pandemic, instead the government will ensure implementation of COVID-19 SOPs.
He assured the gathered businessmen that the government in Punjab and the Centre have the political will to solve all outstanding issues that have been ongoing for decades, especially the non-colonisation of Export Processing Zones (EPZ).
He said inflation is related to monetary policy while food inflation is a seasonal matter. He said prices of groceries, especially wheat and sugar, are not going down.
Earlier today, Prime Minster Imran Khan tweeted that Sensitive Price Index has shown a decline for the second consecutive week.
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) issued latest data of SPI which indicated 0.07 decline for the week ending on November 12, compared to the previous week. Food prices including tomatoes and wheat reported further a decline last week.
SPI went down to 142.71 points during the week ending on November 12,2020 from 142.81 points of the week ending on November 5,2020. Wheat prices reported decline of 0.47 percent and tomatoes prices dropped by 2.75 percent.
