The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a notification on Saturday extending the date to file nomination papers for the upcoming Senate elections to February 15. The elections, however, will be held on March 3 according to the original schedule.
According to the notification, nomination papers can be filed between February 12 and February 15.
The ECP said the ammendment in dates was made after seeing media reports about candidates facing difficulties in completing legal formalities in filing nomination papers.
The ECP stated it administered the extension through the powers conferred to it under Article 218 (3) read with Section 128 of the Elections Act 2017.
