The third wave of COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc with Pakistan reporting at least 151 deaths — almost six deaths every hour — in the past 24 hours.
A total of 5,480 new COVID-19 infections were recorded while 151 people lost their lives, according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC). Most casualties were seen in the province of Punjab followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
As of April 29, the total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan stand at 89,838. Yesterday, 57,013 tests were conducted with Sindh conducting 14,715; Punjab:26,338; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP): 8,261; Islamabad(ICT): 5,651; Balochistan: 929; Gilgit-Baltistan(GB): 241 and Azad Kashmir(AJK): 877.
Out of 1,756 ventilators reserved for COVID-19 patients in the country, 689 ventilators are currently occupied. There is no patient on the ventilator in AJK, GB and Balochistan. So far, Pakistan has seen a total of 708,193 recoveries.
A total of 815,711 cases have been detected so far in the country with AJK reporting 16,931; Balochistan:22,118; GB:5,296; ICT: 74,640, KP:116,523; Punjab:298,818 and Sindh:281,385.
Till now, Pakistan has recorded 17,680 deaths. Punjab is on top of the list with 8,327 casualties followed by Sindh:4,629; KP:3,238; Islamabad: 677; Balochistan: 233; GB: 106 and AJK: 470.
