However, Gabriel Jesus found a way at the start of the second 45 minutes, turning and stroking a deflected shot into the bottom corner from inside the area after Joāo Cancelo’s shot had landed at the Brazilian’s feet.
Meanwhile, in Old Trafford, Manchester United was stunned by the visitors when Aston Villa continued to create chances in the second half with De Gea denying Watkins from close range but helpless against Kourtney Hause, who headed in Douglas Luiz’s corner at the near post to give Dean Smith’s side the lead.
The Portuguese midfielder blazed his spot-kick over the bar in the final minutes of the game, costing United their first match and the second place on the table.
Meanwhile, Liverpool sits on the top of the table followed by Manchester City in second place, Chelsea holding its third position, and Manchester United dropping two blocks in fourth.
