The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) retained Punjab Assembly seat PP 84 Khushab in the by-election held on Wednesday, according to unofficial result early Thursday morning.
PML-N candidate Moazzam Sher Kallu won the seat that was vacated due to the death of Malik Muhammad Waris Kallo in March by bagging 73,081 votes. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Ali Hussain Baloch polled 62,903 votes.
Meanwhile, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Moazzam in a message on Twitter.
“The people of Khushab have rejected the wheat and sugar thieves,” the PML-N’s official Twitter account said.
Shehbaz said: “By the grace of Allah Almighty, Nowshera, Daska, Wazirabad and now Khushab have placed their seal of trust in the PML-N.”
PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz congratulated her uncle Shehbaz Sharif, the people of Khushab, and the “lions” of the party in her message on Twitter.
Soon after the results were announce, Moazzam thanked voters in a message on Twitter.
“Thank you, people of Khushab from the bottom of my heart,” he tweeted.
