Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused US President Joe Biden of making the same demands as Donald Trump to revive a nuclear deal.
The Supreme Leader said in a meeting with President Ebrahim Raisi’s newly formed cabinet, “America’scurrent administration is no different from the previous one, because what it demands from Iran on the nuclear issue is different in words, but the same thing that Trump demanded.”
He further added, “The Americans truly have no shame on the nuclear issue, and even though they withdrew from the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.)… they now talk in a way and make demands as it was (Iran) that withdrew.”
Khamenei also called on President Raisi to win back the public’s trust in the government.
“It’s a great asset for a government to be able to attract the people’s trust, which has unfortunately been slightly damaged. You must repair this,” he said.
The Ayatollah believes that the way to do it is to deliver on the promises made by the government.
Ex-President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the nuclear deal that offered Iran some relief from sanctions in return for control over its nuclear program in 2018.
The last round of negotiations to revive the deal occurred in June, with no date set for new talks.
The country is heavily impacted by US sanctions. In recent years, several protests over the economy and living conditions emerged due to the sanctions.
