New Zealand won the toss and elected to field. Pakistan lost Shan Masood early with a brilliant inswinging yorker from Tim Southee. Abid Ali and Azhar Ali came together and steadied the ship. Just when it was looking like Pakistan have gain ascendancy there was a mini collapse which saw Pakistan reduced to 84 for 5.
Captain Muhammad Rizwan and Azhar Ali started the rebuilding process and added 88 for the fifth wicket. In the second session, Pakistan scored 130 runs in 30 overs. Rizwan completed his fifth half-century on the trot. During their partnership, Kyle Jamieson asked questions of them with his brilliant bowling. Rizwan was eventually dismissed by Jamieson but by then Pakistan were looking strong for a 350-400 score. Azhar Ali was dismissed by Trent Boult with a beautiful outswinger for a well made 93.
The last session saw wickets falling regularly as Pakistan were bowled out for 297 late in the day. Kyle Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers and completed his third fifer.
New Zealand will begin their innings on Day 2 and what we have seen so far, there is something for the bowlers and Pakistan will be looking to exploit that.
