KARACHI: Attock Petroleum Limited will initiate the establishment of electric recharge outlets from motorways and highways, and later spread it to cover major cities.

It will start the Electronic Vehicle charging facility initially at the Company Operated sites located on motorways, said the statement issued at the stock exchange. Afterwards, the facility shall be spread at potential retail outlets located in major cities, it added.

Considering the environmental impact, the world is moving towards electric vehicles. Many countries around the world are taking initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by introducing electric vehicles. The government of Pakistan is also moving ahead in the direction to control harmful emissions and reduce the cost of fuel, therefore Pakistan has recently approved an Electric Vehicle Policy.

Attock Petroleum has followed Pakistan State Oil and Shell Pakistan in developing an electric vehicle charger for consumers in Pakistan. The initiative by the leading fuel retailers serves as an improvement in the automobile industry of Pakistan. The oil marketing companies plan to increase the number of sites and strategically expand the electric automobile charging network in the next three to five years.

The government recently approved a policy to promote the use of electric vehicles as an eco-friendly mode of transportation in Pakistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan shared a vision that by 2030, 60% of the energy used in Pakistan will be green and 30% of vehicles will be electric.
