Federal Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said on Sunday that approximately 50 percent population of Islamabad, above the age of 15 years, has been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
The minister tweeted that more than 71 percent of the eligible population in the federal capital has received their first dose of the vaccine.
“Need to see an acceleration of the second dose in other cities,” Asad added.
On Saturday, the district administration of Islamabad imposed a micro smart lockdown in 11 sectors and banned all private and public gatherings.
Earlier, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) decided to inoculate teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17 years from Monday (tomorrow). They will be given the Pfizer jab, that too free of cost. Teenagers have been instructed to visit the vaccination centre with their birth certificate from NADRA.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to constitute special teams that would visit educational institutions across the country and vaccinate students.
