KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has denied reports appearing in social media regarding its revamp plans that claimed the national carrier was shifting its head office from Karachi to Islamabad, saying that the plan has not been approved by the government yet.

“The blog did not maintain the ethics of the journalism,” the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) spokesperson said in the statement issued at the Pakistan Stock Exchange said today (Monday). “The blog did not contact the company to confirm the information,” he added.

The statement also said PIACL is in the process of improving and restructuring the airline to make is a profitable venture despite severe constrains, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic that has impacted PIACL as well as the global airline industry.

PIACL as an on-going process and in the last year it has closed its loss-making routes and is focusing on increasing frequencies and adding destinations on profitable routes.

“The restructuring plan, be they operational or financial with the pre-set milestones, are being undertaken with the consent of government. The information regarding any such restructuring plan will be released whenever so approved by the government of Pakistan,” the spokesperson added.
