Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, a former senior member of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), has announced the establishment of his own faction called Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Pakistan (JUI-P), alleging that he was always part of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, never the JUI-F.

Following a meeting with recently expelled members of the JUI-F, Sherani said, “We have never been a part of the JUI-F. All of us have been members of the JUI-P – a party which we inherited from our great leaders. The JUI-P is the name of the party according to its constitution.”

“We have not left the party nor have we separated from the party; we are the real face of Jamiat,” claimed Hafiz Hussain Ahmed.

This statement comes just days after Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) dismissed four of its senior members for their controversial statements against the party. In the oust that took place on Friday, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Maulana Gul Naseeb, Maulana Shujaul Mulk and Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani were expelled on the grounds of their deviation “from the party policy” and for “creating party within the party”.

The party’s former senior leader, Khan Sherani had stated earlier that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has been set up for “personal gains,” adding that “Maulana Fazlur Rehman himself is selected. How can he taunt and call Imran Khan and others selected?”

“Everyone [in the alliance] is struggling to come to power. Each party in the opposition alliance has its own set of interests,” Sherani had previously said, terming PDM as an ‘unnatural alliance’.
