K-pop phenomenon BTS plans on holding an in-person concert in Seoul, there first in South Korea since the pandemic.
The biggest boy band in the world posted a tweet promising to “see you in Seoul, MARCH 2022”.
The tweet comprised hashtags for the group’s ‘Permission to Dance’ stage performances but did not disclose any further details.
Yonhap news agency reported that officials at the group’s management company, HYBE Labels, have said that they would make every effort to hold the event in person to provide fans in South Korea a chance to see their favorite artists.
A press release by HYBE Labels said the next city in the BTS tour will be Seoul, but the company did not immediately confirm if the event would be in person.
On Thursday the seven-member BTS wrapped a series of four concerts in California, the group’s first in-person concerts since 2019.
Some of the South Korean fans known as ‘BTS ARMY’ flew to California to attend the concerts.
Previously BTS’s plans for a world tour were repeatedly delayed and had to be canceled eventually due to the pandemic.
South Korea in early 2020 suffered the first major Covid-19 outbreak outside China, where the pandemic began in 2019.
South Korea has been driven to reimpose some social distancing measures only weeks after relaxing them in October in an effort to curtail the numbers of infections despite a vaccination rate of 91.6 percent for its adult population aged 18 and above.
The surge of new infections includes six confirmed cases of the Omicron variant that emerged last month in southern Africa.
