Indian cricketer Gambhir called out former Australian cricketers Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne for staying mum on Warner’s ‘pathetic’ stealing of six runs on Muhammad Hafeez’s double-bounce ball.

Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir made the comments on a show on Thursday following Pakistan’s defeat at the hands of Australia in the Twenty20 World cup semi-final.

The ball had slipped from the hand of Muhammad Hafeez during the match and had a double-bounce before it reached David Warner who then proceeded to hit a six.

Gautam Gambhir slammed Warner during the show and said that David Warner should have left the ball instead of hitting a six on it.

He also tweeted, “What an absolutely pathetic display of the spirit of the game by Warner! #Shameful What say @ashwinravi99?”

He further called out Australian players for not speaking up at the poor display of the spirit of the game by saying, “Ricky Ponting, Shane Warne talks a lot about sportsmanship, let’s see what they’ve to say about David Warner Six. The ball slipped from Hafeez’s hand Warner shouldn’t have done that, he stole 6 runs, I want to see if they tweet about it”.

Gambhir took a jab at the former Australian cricketers saying that they talk big about the spirit of game and cricket then why won’t they condemn their own cricketer. He recalled that they criticized the Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin in the past but have remained silent when it is one of their own players.

The former Indian cricketer has received criticism from foreign sports journalists as they show support for Warner.

Meanwhile, Australian coach Justin Langer has expressed praise at Warner hitting a six on the double-bouncer ball, “Oh my gosh! It’s one of the best things I have ever seen in the game of cricket. I don’t think anyone would have the instincts to do that”.
