The Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan son Aryan Khan has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the Mumbai drug bust case on Cordelia Cruises’ Empress ship.

Aryan has been charged under Section 8C, 20B, 27 read with 35 of the NDPS Act, and along with him are his friends Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha.

As per the visuals, Aryan along with his friends were taken for medical examination by the NCB. The three suspects were brought back to the NCB office after the medical examination.

Early today, Aryan along with seven others was detained for interrogation. Arbaaz Merchant, Munmun Dhamecha, Nupur Sarika, Ismeet Singh, Mohak Jaswal, Vikrant Chhoker, and Gomit Chopra were also being questioned.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress party has alleged that the raid conducted by the NCB on a cruise ship in Mumbai and subsequent action against some specific persons were aimed at the deflection from the “real issue” of the drugs seizure at Mundra port in Gujarat.

The party also demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the drugs haul at the Mandra port.

Mundra port

Last month, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized 2,988.21 kg of heroin worth ₹21,000 crores in the global market from two containers at the Adani-operated Mundra port in Gujarat’s Kutch district.

Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed said, “There is news that a Bollywood actor’s son has been arrested. Where did this drug come from? The NCB has come out and all of sudden saying that it has caught drugs from a cruise ship.”

She added that the red issue is Mundra port which is the drug cartel in the country and from where the drugs smuggled from Afghanistan arrive adding that the government is deflecting attention from the real issue.

She insisted, “They (NCB) catch some people here and there so that media will show that case, (that will) divert the attention. But I want you all to write about Mundra port, why it is not investigated? Why it is not investigated? What is happening there? Why is it ignored?” she asked. Had the drugs not come from there (port), there would not have been any party happening (on the cruise ship).

She also questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the drug seizure at Mundra port, which has happened in their home state. “Gujarat is becoming a hub of drugs smuggling,” Mohamed said and expressed apprehensions that privatization of ports would lead to such activities.

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said he has learned from the media about the NCB action in the sea and he would comment on it as further information about the raid is awaited.
