There has been a steady fall in the number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan with positivity rate falling below five percent during the past 24 hours.

The fourth wave of coronavirus pandemic is dying down as Pakistan reported 2,714 new cases after testing 56,733 people for the disease. As a result of fall in number of new cases, positivity rate declined to 4.78 percent.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), last time the country’s positivity rate was less than 5 percent was on July 24.

With the addition of 2,714 fresh cases on Wednesday, the total number of cases went up to 1,212,809.

There is also decline in number of active cases in the country as it came down below 80,000 for the first time since early August. At present, the number of active cases is 77,532.

In the last 24 hours, another 73 people died of COVID-19, taking the death toll to 26,938. 

The number of people recovered crossed 1.1 million mark after 10,923 patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours. As of now, some 1,108,339 patients have defeated the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the country administered till Wednesday, at least 68,227,337 jabs of COVID-19 vaccine. Assuming every person needs two doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 15.8 percent of the country’s population.

During the last week, Pakistan vaccinated an average 1,040,926 people daily. At that rate, it will take a further 42 days to administer enough doses for another 10 percent of the population.
