At least 14 people, including women and children, were killed in houses collapse in Torghar district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday following heavy rains in the area.
Rescue sources said the flash floods caused widespread destruction in the area and damaged several houses.
Most of the casualties occurred when lightning struck three houses located in Jhatka within Judba tehsil in Torghar, according to the region’s Assistant Commissioner Azhar Zahoor.
The houses collapsed after being hit by lightning, burying 13 people under the rubble, he said.
A dozen bodies have been recovered from the debris and rescue work was going on, he added.
Zahoor said that a cattle pen was also damaged due to the heavy rain, while a tractor slipped, killing its driver.
The rain caused landslides as a result of which several roads were closed.
Meanwhile, the roof of a house collapsed in Abbottabad’s Kakul area and buried seven members of a family under its rubble. Three bodies have been recovered and two injured retrieved from the debris as the rescue operation continues.
According to Rescue 1122, the house’s roof collapsed due to heavy rain. The bodies and the injured were moved to Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad.
