Zahir Jaffer in police custody

A district and sessions court in Islamabad extended the judicial remand of Zahir Jaffer till September 6.

The main suspect behind the gruesome murder of 27-year-old Noor Mukaddam was presented before magistrate Muhammad Imran in the Islamabad katcheri.

Following the proceedings, the court took the suspect back to the Adiala Jail.

He was produced before the court upon completion of his 14-day remand.

Deputy Judicial Magistrate Saqib Jawad conducted three separate hearings of the murder case.

During the first hearing, Jaffer was brought to the court from Adiala Jail on completion of his judicial remand where his attendance from a Bakshi Khana was marked. The suspect did not appear before the court and was taken back to jail.

Co-suspects Iftikhar and Jamil were brought from Adiala jail in the second hearing and the police presented their application for allowing DNA tests of the two suspects. The court allowed the police to conduct the tests.

Six staffers of Therapy Works, including owner Dr Tahir Zahoor Ahmed, were also produced in the court after they completed their one-day physical remand. The police believe that the staffers helped the suspect hide the evidence. They were later granted bail.

On August 16, a local court extended Jaffer’s and his staff’s judicial remand till August 30.

The nation is furious over the murder and beheading of Noor Mukaddam and are calling on authorities to take swift action.
